Candida albicans is a micro-organism that survives in the vagina of a female. This organism causes yeast infection. When the organism is present in small number there is no visible signs but they don't take much time to multiply. You can control this multiplication by taking medication. There are a number of treatments like creams, pills, ointments and much more. It is not safe to use any medication without the prescription of a doctor as vagina is a very delicate area. You have to first detect the signs yourself and to reduce the risks of the infection due to yeast. The following are the symptoms of this infection.
1. Vaginal Discharge
Thick discharge that looks like cottage cheese is experienced by only few women who are suffering from this type of infection. The thickness of discharge is due to the presence of Candida albicans in the vagina. The color of this discharge can be white or yellow and do not have any foul odor. Thus, one has to be careful and keep a track on the type of discharge to detect any type of infection.
2. Itchiness or Pain in the Vulva
It is not necessary that all women who are suffering from yeast infection should experience thick discharge. The symptom which is more common than vaginal discharge and that can be detected easily is an itching sensation in the vulva. The itching sensation may also be coupled by a feeling of burning sensation. It leads to rashes and swelling in the vulva accompanied by redness. At times of urinating one may experience pain. This pain is also experienced during sexual intercourse. A women needs to be very careful in order to detect the real symptoms of yeast infection. The burning sensation in the vulva during urination has to be detected specifically as the same sensation is experienced during infection of the urinary tract. It can be understood by keeping a track of the exact time when the pain begins and stops. As the urine touches the vulva you will experience the pain. This is the region that is infected. In case of infection of the urinary tract the pain will start as the urine comes out and persists till the last drop.
If any of these symptoms is experienced there is a surety of yeast infection and one must start the treatment immediately. Seek medical advice if the signs are positive. You can buy over- the- counter pills too. But it is always advisable to consult a doctor and take prescribed medicines. If the problem persists after medication too then there may be chances of serious infection. At this point of time a proper and detailed diagnosis is important.
